Increased Security Measures for Air Travellers

In an effort to keep our clients informed about the new Security Measures, we offer the following:

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada:

CBC News Online:

On August 10, 2006, following a major counter-terrorism operation in the United Kingdom, security at all UK airports has been increased and additional security measures have been put in place for all flights.

Heightened security measures at all of London’s airports are causing disruptions to incoming and departing flights. Travellers with reservations on flights in to or out of London should contact their airline to confirm the status of their flight.

Travellers should be aware that there are new security measures. More information is available from the British Airport Authority Web site.

The Government of Canada also announced increased security measures for airports and air travel in to and out of Canada. Please consult Transport Canada’s Web site for further details.

Tips for travellers
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority issued new rules effective on Aug. 10 after British police announced a plot to bomb commercial aircraft from Britain to the United States. The rules will affect you if you're flying from any Canadian airport, including on a domestic trip. You can take carry-on luggage but it can't contain any liquids or gels, including:
  • All beverages, including juice for children.
  • Aerosols.
  • Shampoo.
  • Suntan lotion.
  • Creams.
  • Toothpaste.
  • Hair gel.
The exceptions:
  • Baby formula.
  • Breast milk in bottles.
  • Juice for a baby or small child.
  • Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket.
  • Insulin.
  • Essential non-prescription medicine.
Put all liquids and gels in checked baggage. If you're boarding a flight to the United States, you'll be asked to take off your shoes for screening. If you can't take off your shoes because you have a disability or are elderly, security officials will check them with detection equipment.
Association of Canadian Travel Agents (ACTA):

Following are the announcements for travellers released by the governments of Canada, USA, and UK:

                                        Canada - USA - UK

Security Tips for travellers:

  • Finish all refreshments prior to heading to the security checkpoint
  • Limit your carry-on items to your essential needs to facilitate easier screening
  • Check with your air carrier well before your flight departs for information on when you should arrive at the airport
  • On your day of departure, check your departing airport’s Web site for new security delays
  • Be attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity and report it to authorities
  • Be cooperative with security agents at all checkpoints and gates
